Our employees are what make the 3dcart world go ’round, and in our Employee Spotlight series it’s all about them! Here’s your chance to get to know the awesome and dedicated Team behind our platform.
This month, our featured 3dcart employee is Jonathan Ferragut, Technical Sales Consultant, who has been with us for one-and-a-half years.
What are your duties at 3dcart?
I am responsible for the spec’ing out and quoting of custom programming and design projects at 3dcart. This requires me to delve into the requirements of each new project, assist in the creation of a method to implement any custom programming with our existing platform, provide coaching and support for our sales staff regarding any projects they are currently working on, work closely with our COO and Director of Professional Services to outline project requirements, create proposals that reflect the needs of custom projects, and then communicate with development staff regarding any custom programming projects.
How did you get into the field and arrive at your current position?
I have been in the Tech Field most of my life and have always been involved with code to some extent. My background in Sales and Technology have lead me to rapidly progress through the ranks at 3dcart and resulted in the creation of this unique position. When I began working here, I was hired on as a support representative but climbed up through various positions over my time with the company. I piloted the On-boarding initiative and created all training regarding it as well as standards and practices, which also involved the training of our staff on our chat system.
What do you find most challenging about your job here?
My position uniquely provides me the ability to work with a client’s vision of their business. This means that one moment I may be outlining and creating a method to implement a new feature with our platform, and another I may be providing design advice or coaching someone on the inner workings of 3dcart.
What’s your favorite thing about 3dcart?
The people, hands down. We have some of the best people at this company that I have had the privilege of working with. They come from all walks of life and while we are strictly business when we have to be, we still manage to have fun and keep a friendly environment. You could really call it a strong community or an ecosystem that we’ve developed.
Who is/are your favorite 3dcart client(s)?
Honestly, we have so many amazing customers that I have had the privilege of working with. I can’t choose one specifically, but I would love to offer my thanks to everyone that has allowed me to touch their lives and be involved with their businesses. It’s been such an integral part of my day to day and I appreciate our interactions deeply.
How do you personally apply 3dcart’s Core Values (Results Oriented, Reliable, Customer Focused, and Responsive)?
3dcart and Apple have been my two favorite companies due to their values and beliefs. Honestly, in my own personal journey at this company I follow one basic premise: Treat each customer’s business as if it were my own. This is much easier in theory than in practice, but when appropriately applied, you begin to realize that you are not just working – you are enriching lives through the experiences you create.
What piece of advice would you offer a brand new online store owner?
Don’t rush your release and make sure you iron out all of the kinks. One of the biggest mistakes we see new store owners make is to rush the release of their store before it’s ready. You have to invest in your business if you want to see returns. This means invest time and money. Proper design, blogging, SEO marketing, and marketable content writing are all essentials in any business plan. Make sure you don’t short change yourself. Get in touch with someone that can help consult on how your business can operate and what best practices are for launching your unique store. This is one of the things we pride ourselves in here at 3dcart. Our sales team aren’t just there to help you process an order, they are industry experts and have a robust network behind them to make the best suggestions for your business.
What gets you through a rough day?
Focusing on the intricacies of the projects I work on. I love solving problems, so one of the best things for me is to bear down on a really complex deal and allow myself to create something interesting and new. Another thing that I do is take walks on my breaks. Nothing clears out your head better than a nice walk.
What are you most proud of, both in and outside of your career?
I have helped create blogs, add revisions to our Knowledgebase, create training documentation, create and apply fixes for customer issues, trained coworkers, and helped to create new features and projects for our platform. I’ve enjoyed leaving my mark and helping to improve the businesses of our customers as well as our own company.
How do you unwind after work?
I spend time with my girlfriend and kids, play video games, work on my side projects, read, learn new skills, practice martial arts, exercise, meditate, and eat lots of awesome food. Haha. Honestly, if I could consider it to be a second job I would. I love food – especially sushi/sashimi, ramen, and Korean food.
How do you spend your off time? Hobbies and interests?
This is pretty much the same as the above question. I love technology, coding, anime, video games, food, and am deeply committed to my family.
Where are you from?
Originally from Queens, NY but I grew up in Hollywood, Florida. I’ll always be a New Yorker at heart.
Do you have a personal philosophy, motto, or favorite quote?
Yes, two of them actually.
“Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.” – Martin Luther King
“Fall seven times, stand up eight.” – Japanese proverb
What’s the weirdest or funniest thing you’ve ever seen or had happen to you?
I plead the fifth. lol
What is your dream vacation?
I would love to visit Japan. I am really interested in their history, culture, and morals. Their sense of honor has really inspired me in my life and I have taken what I could from it so that I can could enhance my own way of living and doing things.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
Probably Japan or Europe. I am very old fashioned, coming from a Spanish/Italian family background, and feel that these locations best align with my values and way of life. However, I’d never pass up an opportunity to live in my hometown, NYC.
If you could have any super power, what would you choose?
Reshape reality/control energy and matter. See also: Doctor Strange and the Ancient One.
Is there anything you’d like to add?
Look back only to appreciate where you’ve been, but don’t dwell on it. Always move forward, even if only a little bit at a time. Small and gradual improvement is almost always a lasting change. Read up on Kaizen.
